Stars Advance To Round Two

The Dallas Stars are on to round two after beating the Ducks four to one tonight. The first half of the game didn’t look good for the Stars. They seemed to be doing everything right, but weren’t reaping the benefits. In the final period, Dallas’ powerplay finally cashed in. The crowd erupted, momentum shifted, and a minute later a second goal was scored. The team Dallas plays in the next round has yet to be determined. Detroit and Colorado have advanced to the second round, but San Jose and Calgary are going to a game seven.

Non-hockey related: I’ve been keeping up with news related to the giant $750 million U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, which is now ready and only six months late. They now have all of the fire alarms and saftey equipment in working order. The following link provides a very complete collection of photographs that put the size of this project in perspective: Eyeballing the US Embassy Baghdad. If you missed my other posts you can see them here (Baghdad US Embassy? More Like Resort) and here (Mounting Incompetence).

Uncle Paul?

I’m going to be an uncle. It hasn’t quite sunken in yet, which is why I forgot to mention it last week. My brother’s wife, Shannon, is going to have a baby boy sometime in late August.

In other news, Alexis and I had a pretty busy weekend. We started out by doing lawn work Saturday morning by mowing the lawn and trimming the tree in the front yard. Now I can actually mow around the tree without getting hit in the face by branches multiple times. Later that day I cooked steaks and watched the Dallas Stars smear the Anaheim Ducks five to two, making the series two to zero. On Sunday we went to a Texas Rangers game, courtesy of my Mom’s work place. We ate at a restaurant there at stadium then proceeded to our seats just eleven rows behind first base. After the game we went home and watched “V for Vendetta” and then played “BioShock” for the PC. Well, I played “BioShock” while Alexis watched, bit her nails, and gave me encouragement. I need all the help I can get. The game takes place in an underwater city, where science has been allowed to do as it will, without any moral constraints. The city is serious decay as are it’s inhabitants. See for yourself in the video below:

“V for Vendetta” was an excellent movie and seriously intense. I’ve linked to the trailer below:

Still Alive

I haven’t been the best blogger as of late. There hasn’t been much for me to talk about. Alexis flew off to Michigan for a week and a half to help her parents move and left me to fend for myself. Thankfully she’s back now. I don’t know how much longer I could have lasted.

Yesterday was the last regular season game for the Dallas Stars. They beat the San Jose Sharks 4-2 and on Thursday they play the Anaheim Ducks to start the first round of the playoffs. The Stars have made it to the playoffs on a regular basis, but don’t always do so well. They have played extremely well this season except for a loosing streak toward the end. I’m confident that if they play their best they can win the Stanley Cup.

Expect a change to my website soon. I’m going to be modifying the layout a bit to go with fixed width content. The current page shrinks and expands to take up the whole browser window, but the new one will be a certain size. Then I may have a menu to allow you to choose which you like best.
