This year I’ve decided to break a bad habit. I’ve been posting all of my pictures on facebook and not posting anything here. My goal is to post the pictures here and link to them on facebook. That way there will be more content here for everyone to see and the money spent to keep this website running won’t be going to waste. My posts could possibly be really short. Don’t be surprised to see pictures with little or no description. I might be feeling lazy, but at least I’m post something. A quick google search reveals that there are facebook plugins for WordPress (the website software I’m currently using). I will continue to research this. Perhaps it will save time and effort with cross posting content.
Blood Bag
I didn’t realize how involuntary fainting can be. In my previous post I mentioned that I have hemochromatosis and I have to give a pint of blood every so often to keep my iron levels down. On my first visit to the lab everything was going great until the very end when the nurse took the blood away. I was trying not to pay attention during the procedure, but as she walked away she held up the bag and showed it to me. My exact words were, “Wow, that’s a lot of blood.” Then for some strange reason I started to feel light headed and the lights started to dim darker and darker. I let her know about it and a group of nurses proceeded to try to stick an IV in the back of my hand, which wasn’t successful (in their words “it didn’t thread”). They finally put the IV in my arm and I started to recover with some apple juice and graham crackers. Once my blood pressure returned to normal and I was cleared to leave, I left looking like I lost a fight with a needle. I had three brightly colored bandage wraps around me. The one on my hand was simply to cover up the hideous band aids.

I have had two more phlebotomies since then and have not had a problem.

I’ve been a bad blogger, but here’s a quick run down of what’s going on in my life.
- The house still hasn’t sold.
- I’ve seen the following road kill since moving to Huntsville: armadillo, fox, raccoon, and coyote
- I found out that I have hemochromatosis, which causes a build up of iron in my blood and body. Nothing too severe, just inconvenient as I have to give a pint of blood from time to time in order to keep it under control. Interesting enough the RedCross won’t take a blood donation from me.
- I’m now a huge fan of “Avatar: The Last Airbender”.
- Alexis and I are now licensed to fish in Alabama.
- The team I control in the fantasy football league that my brother asked me to join is playing decent.
