Last weekend I went to http://www.speedtest.net to find out how fast my connection to the internet is. I would like to compare results to others. To test your connection go to the website and follow their directions. Here’s mine:
I find it a bit depressing that I only had one post last month. Work has been busy and more stressful than usual. It’s not just me either, but for everyone in my department. The three day weekend has given me some much needed downtime.
On the forth, I slept in and went to my Mother’s house to cook out. Later that evening we managed to catch the fireworks show as we were heading home. We didn’t exactly plan to see them. We just happened to hear the percussion of fireworks as we left the house and drove in that direction. They were very impressive.
On Saturday, Alexis, Tyler, and I went to see “Hancock”. It’s a movie about a super hero who’s a miserable drunk that, while trying to help people, tends to wreak everything. The movie exceeded my expectations with an original character who is likable despite being flawed. I don’t consider this a typical Will Smith movie. Like his character in “I am Legend”, he isn’t all smiles and jokes.
On Sunday, Alexis and I went with her parents to see “Wall-E”. “Wall-E” met my high expectations for a Pixar movie. As Alexis had pointed out to me, the movie had very little dialog. The machines generally only spoke their names and when the humans spoke they furthered the plot. The visuals were great as was the story.
Alexis and I just finished watching the short lived TV series “Freaks & Geeks”. The show centers around a brother and sister struggling through high school in a suburb of Detriot during the early 80s. The show works beautifully on several levels. The characters are well thought out and, for me at least, easy to relate to. The dialog and writing are great. Conversations between characters are realistic, intelligent, and funny. The moments that the characters share do not feel forced. In my opinion “Freaks and Geeks” has the best casting ever. The actors fit their characters to a “T”. I found myself appreciating the actors who I’ve seen in other shows and movies more. Linda Cardellini, who is in the Scooby Doo movies and on ER, does a great job as the smart girl who wants to hang out with the burnouts/freaks. Jason Segel, who is hilarious in “How I Met Your Mother”, plays a stoner wannabe drummer. I was also surprised by James Franco‘s acting. The only other thing I’ve seen him in is Spiderman. Here he plays a greasy and at times scary-looking slacker. Unfortunately I haven’t seen Martin Starr in anything. He plays the funniest geek in the series.
