On to my main topic, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Detroit Red Wings will begin the duel for the Stanley Cup tonight. This is a sequel, that I’m not entirely happy with. They played each other in the final series last year. With 30 teams in the league, it seems improbable for the same teams to make it to the final series two years in a row. I’m not a huge fan of the Red Wings to begin with and it doesn’t help that they’ve already won the Stanley Cup eleven times.
The Red Wings are not happy about the re-scheduling done for the playoffs. There was going to be a bit of a long break between the two rounds. In order to keep fans interested, the NHL moved the games up and scheduled two back to back games this weekend, one today and one tomorrow. The Wings have players that are injured or playing hurt and would have benefited from more days off. I think this is the best idea the NHL has come up with in a long time. Two consecutive games should make for interesting hockey and spark more interest.
