All sorts of hell is breaking loose on Digg today. Digg is a community-based news resource. Websites are submitted by users then promoted to the front page based on popularity.
The Digg community is disgruntled over the censoring of stories that have been submitted recently. A key code, made up of 32 characters that can be used to decrypt HD-DVD content, was leaked to the public. This key allows those types of DVDs to be copied when they previously could not. Digg is afraid that it will be sued or blacklisted for the number appearing on their website, claiming it represents intellectual property. I have a hard time believing displaying these numbers on a website can get you sued or fined and it hasn’t stopped the Digg community. They have plastered the number across the website. They’ve been submitting websites and stories all day long in an act of civil disobedience.
I could have put the key code up on my website, but Alexis asked that I not and I’d rather not take the chance..
